SMOKING KILLS!
There is absolutely no need to tell you again and again that smoking is one ofthe worst habits one may have, being addicted to nicotine is pretty much similar to being addicted to cocaine or heroine. Nicotine: Tobacco plant has a natural protecting substance called Nicotine from being eaten by insects. It’s highly toxic by nature.Still knowing the fact that smoking is very harmful, a strong slow poison, but still we continue to live with this habit being addicted to nicotine.
Out of my own experience I think nobody enjoys smoking, it’s only the beginners who enjoy this habit in it’s early stages until they are addicted to the habit and start fighting it back in efforts of trying to quit the same habit, therefore a majority of so called “smokers” only smoke because they are addicted to smoking and not because they enjoy smoking.
Have you ever realized-Why do heavy smoker keep on smoking? On my own experience I think they smoke for one basic and simple reason that is ” TO BE NORMAL”.
Our brain will continue to ask nicotine unless and until we quit. The brain approaches giving withdrawal symptoms like :make us feel irritable, uneasy and moody, as if our are mind and our body missing something. The body and mind get so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person has to smoke just to feel normal and think straight. When we smoke, nicotine is inhaled with tobacco smoke reaches our lungs and from lungs to blood stream and up to the smoker’s brain within 7 to 10 seconds. Once there, nicotine triggers a number of chemical reactions that create temporary feelings of pleasure for the smoker, but these sensations are short-lived, subsiding within minutes. As the nicotine level drops in the blood, smokers feel edgy and agitated — the start of nicotine withdrawal. So, in order to relieve the discomforts, smokers light up another cigarette…and then another..and another. And so it goes — the vicious cycle of nicotine addiction. One cigarette is never enough, asking for more and more cigarettes.
What are the effects of nicotine to brain ?: When a person smokes, the nicotine in the smoke is rapidly absorbed into the blood and starts affecting the brain within 10 seconds. The result is the release of adrenaline (“fight or flight” hormone).Physically, adrenaline increases a person’s heart rate, blood pressure and restricts blood flow to the heart muscle. When this occurs, the smoker experiences rapid, shallow breathing and the feeling of a racing heartbeat. Adrenaline also instructs the body to dump excess glucose into the bloodstream.
Nicotine also inhibits the release of insulin from the pancreas, a hormone that is responsible for removing excess sugar from a person’s blood. This leaves the smoker in a slightly hyperglycemic condition, meaning he has more sugar in his blood than is normal. High blood sugar acts as an appetite suppressant, which may be why smokers think their cigarettes reduce hunger.
Nicotine increases the level of dopamine in the brain, a neurotransmitter that is responsible for feelings of pleasure and well-being. The acute effects of nicotine wear off within minutes, so people must continue dosing themselves frequently throughout the day to maintain the pleasurable effects of nicotine and to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
You will be surprised to know that cigarette smoke contains almost any toxic chemical you find around your garage or surroundings. Cigarette smoke is a cocktail of poisonous gases and chemicals. Some of the chemicals and poisonous gases in cigarette smoke include:
Acetone, Ammonia, Acetylene, Benzene, Benzoapyrene, Butane, Cadmium, Carbon Monoxide, Cyanide, Formaldehyde, Lead, Methanol, Nicotine, Nitrogen Oxide, Phenol, Propylene glycol, Toluene.
If you really want to stop smoking or do you want to help somebody quit smoking? If your answer is YES then this brings us to yet another question “How can you stop smoking?” “How can you or anybody else quit this stinking habit?” Yeah I know, I am trying to act too smart or may be de-moralizing you. Well, in rare cases it’s easy for some individuals to quit the smoking habit, they will just wake up one day and decide they will never smoke again and they quit smoking just like that.
We know for most people smoking is a hard habit to break because tobacco contains nicotine which is highly addictive to the body and mind just like cocaine and other addictive drugs. The body and mind get so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person has to smoke just to feel normal and think straight. Most people know that smoking causes cancer, emphysema, wrinkles, and so on and it also shortens your life span by 10-15 years or more, it costs smokers thousands of dollars or more every year yet people continue to smoke, this just shows how powerful this cigarette smoking addiction is and therefore it is not something to play or joke around with.
So stop thinking and start acting now before it’s too late, remember that – Precaution Is Better Than Care!
There are many different ways to quit smoking, but first- All you need is little determination and bit of will power to control your temptation. There are many different methods and the best method for one person may not be the best method for another person. Even if your our past failures are not a lesson that you are unable to quit.
